futurism: (monument valley)
[personal profile] futurism
I've been through a big music slump during the past months, but the love for digging up new things and just sitting through them to discover them is slowly but surely coming back; and therefore I can finally bring a new album rec again:

As fortuitous as things are, I actually came across this one through an adorable meme video (which you can watch here) so it also has the added benefit of coming across it more organically. Onto the album itself:

There are some genres that I wish I could get more out of and math rock and any adjacent math things is definitely one of them, much like prog, if something does not have a distinctive sound to it more often than not it ends up sounding repetitive and trite, not only within the same album but according to my mental image of the genre as a whole. This album does not suffer of that, it's a fun and fresh listen that kept me engaged throughout the whole thing while keeping the distinctive structure of the genre itself. It feels summery in its lightness which complements the fruit theme. I'd say this record works in the same way soundtracks do since it can easily be played to work alongisde in order to keep yourself focused and entertained.

Seems this is the artist's first full length release so I'll be keeping my eye on whatever else they make in the future too.
